Video (SD/DVD)

You can upload Standard-Definition (SD) video using an MP4 file, MOV file, or the files from a DVD-Video disc as the source. If uploading from a DVD-Video disc, make certain to select all the files in the VIDEO_TS folder. Source files cannot be encrypted before upload.

We can also accept ISO and DDP images. If you have these formats, please contact your account manager or support for access to the FluxDVD Encoder software.

The video requirements are as follows:

Specifications for video uploads to FlickRocket

FlickRocket accepts Standard-Definition (SD) video meeting the specifications below:

Video: Single video stream in MP4 container using the H.264 video codec

Audio: AAC (LC) 2-channel audio at 44.1 or 48 kHz

Frame Rate: 23.976, 25, or 29.97

Aspect Ratio: 4:3 or 16:9

Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square pixel must be used for MP4 source

Resolution: SD video should be 640 x480 or 853 x 480.

Bit Rate: FlickRocket can accept any bit rate as long as the files comply with the specification. 6 to 10 Mbits per second average is good for SD files, but we can accept higher bit rates without a problem. File size does not matter. FlickRocket will transcode all files.

Creating a Video (SD) Product

To offer a Standard-Definition video product via your FlickRocket shop account, you must create a Video (SD) product and upload the video to that product. All of the information except the Product ID and whether the content is DRM-protected can be changed later.

To create a Video (SD) product:

  1. In the FlickRocket admin, go to Products>All Products
  2. Click the New Product button
  3. Select Video (SD) from the Product Type dropdown list.
  4. Enter a Name for the product
  5. Enter a Version or SKU if you have that information. It cane also be added later.
  6. Add any Comments you may want to store with the product. (Only admin users will see these comments.)
  7. Enter the Public Name for the product. (This should typically be the same as the product name in the General section, but it can be different.)
  8. Enter a Public Description of the product. (This product description will appear in your shop and the players.)
  9. The Text for purchase email is optional and can contain text that will be included in the order confirmation email. (This is only available when using the FlickRocket frontend. It is not functional for 3-party shopping carts.)
  10. Click Upload to add an image. This image will show in the shop and the players. This image is important for quick product identification and your branding, so you should not skip uploading an image even if only to be replaced later. The image file should be at least 600 pixel resolution. 1024 x 1024 is a good resolution, but is does not have to be square. It is more important that your images sizes are consistent.
  11. The Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is optional, but it is important to add this information to attain the highest search position. Mozilla has a great guide for beginners learning SEO at https://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo.
  12. In the License Assignment section, select a license and click Add. Then select a Price Model from the dropdown list. (Repeat if offering multiple licenses with differing options at different price points.)
  13. If you have created categories for your shop, select the desired Category and click Add. (Repeat if the product should be assigned to multiple categories.)
  14. Leave the Domain Assignment set to All Themes unless you have added more than one theme to your shop.
  15. Leave the Group Assignment set to the default values unless directed otherwise. Groups are used for shop, subscription, and access group content distribution methods.
  16. The Meta Information section options will vary depending on the product type. For videos, the Bibliographic section might include genre, director, actors, runtime, year, etc.
  17. If you have set up Attachments, you can add them in this section. Attachments are used to provide supplemental non-DRM protected files such as docs, spreadsheets, and PDFs to the end user. For example, a lecture video might include a PDF attachment summarizing the key points.
  18. The Attribute Set section is not required for video and is typically used when offering items such as T-Shirts where size and color must be specified.
  19. The Availability section controls when the product will display in the shop catalog. It does not affect content obtained by unlock codes, third-party shops, list import, or manual order entry. The exception is when Enable Pre-Order is selected. That option will prevent access to the content until the release date via web player and player apps.
  20. The Tax Calculation section is optional and requires purchase of the TaxCloud app and subscription to that third-party service.
  21. In the Advanced Options section, there are the following options:
    • Availability - The Web Player should be enabled to allow access using a web browser.
    • GTIN - This field is optional and can be used to add product codes for UPC, ISBN, EAN, JAN, and ITF-14.
    • Supplier - This is a special feature to help supplier maintain component inventory for products. It is optional and would rarely be needed for video products. You can select the supplier if you have purchased the app and set up the feature.
    • Catalog - Enabling this option removes the product from the FlickRocket shop catalog and creates a "secret" link to purchase that product. It has no effect on third-party shops.
    • Certificate - Provided you have created at least one certificate, you can select a certificate that will become available to the course taker once the course is successfully completed.
    • Expiration Date - The certification can be set to expire x many months after successful course completion. Enter 0 if certification should not expire.
  22. Click the Upload content button at the top or bottom of the page. (If the upload window does not appear, check that your browser settings are not set to block pop-up windows for this site.)
  23. Browse to the video file(s) or drop it on the download window. Up load the MP4 file, MOV file, or all files in the VIDEO_TS folder of a DVD disc.
  24. Select Preview (Optional) and choose an option if you want to offer customers a preview or trailer.
  25. Click the Upload Now button.
  26. Click Save to save and close the product.
